Wheat...West coast cash wheat markets moved through early-week holding
in a fairly tight trading range as markets lack fresh USDA numbers. Soft
white wheat bids continued to display some independent strength as spot
basis levels climbed to 90 over Chicago December futures. Along with the
firmer basis, exporters also narrowed carries, signaling an interest in
nearby ownership to cover recent sales. Farm selling remains limited.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed another relatively good
week for wheat movement off U.S. ports, coming in at 16.3 million bushels
to put year-to-date loadings at 392 million which is 18% ahead of a year
ago. Hard red winter was the top shipper with 6.2 million bushels, hard
red spring registered 4.2 million and soft white came in at 3.3 million.
West coast exporters shipped 8.8 million bushels of wheat, going mostly
to Indonesia and Japan, along with another 8.8 million bushels of corn.
