Wheat...Week-on-week performance for west coast cash wheat prices had
white wheat steady, as basis levels to Chicago futures broke to negative
territory, while hard red winter was up nearly 65 cents and dark northern
spring climbed nearly 50 cents. Exporter bid structures remained mostly
flat through September and the sharp rally this week triggered a fair
amount of producer hedge-to-arrive activity.
Weekly Sales...USDA reported another less than stellar week of export
demand for U.S. wheat, coming in 23 percent better than a week ago but 14%
below the four-week average at 10.7 million bushels. Overall commitments
stand at 244 million bushels, which is 26% below a year ago and 11% below
the five-year average pace. Hard red spring was the top seller with 3.5
million bushels, followed by soft red winter with 3.3 million. Hard red
winter booked 2.9 million bushels and with 60 million in commitments is
running 53% below a year ago and 27% below average. White wheat secured
one million bushels for the week and with 66 million in commitments, sets
33% ahead of a year ago and 23% above average. Mexico, Taiwan and Vietnam
accounted for the majority of new business last week.
